Mary “Marie” C. Sparan, 79, a lifelong resident of Stamford passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Stamford Hospital. She was born in Stamford on May 22, 1939 to the late Anthony and Carmella Fraturo DePalma.
Marie was an Office Secretary at Westhill High School with the City of Stamford for many years. She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #41 as a Columbiette. She was known as the "peacemaker” of the family, a loving, sweet and generous person who sacrificed her life for her children. Marie loved Sunday dinner with the family and spending time with her sisters and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas D. Sparan of Stamford, her children, Deborah Sparan Beliveau and her husband Keith of Monroe, Donna Sparan of Stamford, Mary Ann Sparan Tamburri of Stamford and Tommy Sparan, Jr. and his wife Jenny of Trumbull, as well as her grandchildren, P.J. Fabricatore, Thomas Fabricatore, Michael Tamburri, Jr. and Thomas Sparan. Also surviving are her siblings, Antoinette Gerardi, Dina Carella, Jeanne Perna, Carmella Raffaele, Joseph DePalma and his wife Maria and George DePalma and his wife Carol and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Marie was also predeceased by her sisters Millie Caputo and Tillie Cognetta.
Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Sunday, September 23, 2018 from 2:00-6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Gabriel RC Church, 914 Newfield Avenue, Stamford on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 10:00 AM, Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien.
