Luigi Cardillo, Sr., 75, a longtime resident of Stamford passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, September 18, 2018. Luigi was born on July 11, 1943 in Scauri, Italy, son of the late Antonio Cardillo and Maria Assunta Zottola.
Luigi immigrated to the United States in 1967 settling in Stamford. He began his career as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for Genovese Industries having worked there for 27 years, he later joined O&G Industries and retired after working for 12 years in 2009. Luigi was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Luigi loved to tell his stories and jokes to his family and friends especially his cherished grandchildren. Although Luigi was known for his gardening and wine making, he was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Later in life he was known to be seen at the Tully Center Pool for his daily exercise.
Luigi is survived by his devoted wife Rosaria Imbrogno Cardillo, their three children, son, Tony Cardillo and his wife Pam Giambrone, daughter Susan Cunningham and her husband Eric, and Luigi Cardillo, Jr., and his wife Brenda. His grandchildren Jerry Cunningham, Erica Cunningham, and Grace Cardillo, all of Stamford. Luigi is also survived by his sister Maria Barca, brother Pietro Cardillo and sister Libera Nosal, along with several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents Luigi is predeceased by his brother Giovanni Cardillo.

Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory,104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, CT, on the morning of Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 8:00AM to 9:15AM with a funeral procession to follow to St. Gabriel’s RC Church, 914 Newfield Ave., Stamford, CT where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:00AM. Entombment will follow at St. Mary’s Mausoleum, Greenwich, CT.
