Obituary for Alvera Ann ""Vera"" Gerak (Fabrizio)

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Alvera Gerak, 94 years young. She passed peacefully on Saturday, February 10,2018 with her loving family at her side. She was born in Stamford on May 3, 1923 to the late Raphael and Catherine (Colosi) Fabrizio.
She attended Stamford schools, graduating Stamford High School in 1939. She married Joseph Gerak in 1946 and had two children, Sandra and Robert. Vera lived most of her life in Stamford before moving to Deltona, FL where she thrived meeting new friends and enjoying activities with her Church group. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling and playing cards. After her husband’s passing she moved back to CT to live with her daughter and family and her son and his family.
Besides her parents, Vera is predeceased by her husband Joseph, sisters, Amy Adams and Louise Hammond, and brothers, Oswald and Alfred Fabrizio.
Vera is survived by her loving children, Sandra Paulter and Robert Gerak and his wife Elyse, her grandchildren, Dawn Markelon, Sherri Keefe and her husband Dan, Christopher and Matthew Gerak, great grandchildren, Marissa and Jessica Markelon, Kaylee, Dylan and Brody Keefe as well as her sisters, Dolores Ambrogio and her husband Dominick and Gloria Battinelli and her husband Pasquale. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Although we lost her to Alzhiemers many years ago, the absence in our lives will be incredibly difficult. Family and friends may call at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford to join us in celebrating Vera’s life on Monday, February 19, 2018 from 3:00-7:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Church of St. Cecilia, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien.
