Anthony “Tony” Augustus, 93, a long-time resident of Stamford CT, passed away, Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at his home.
Anthony was born December 13,1924 in Darien CT to George and Josephine Calvi Agosto. He attended Darien High School was inducted in the U.S. Army in 1943. As a member of the 106th Infantry Division, he participated in the Battle of the Bulge, one of the largest battles fought in Europe during World War 2. On September 9,1950, he married Mary Joan Casolo at St. John’s Church in Darien, CT. After the war, Anthony graduated from the Hemphill Diesel School in Detroit in 1952. Anthony, a dedicated husband and father, was also a highly-skilled heavy equipment mechanic who began his career at the Luders Marine Construction Company that built racing yachts, commercial vessels, and military craft that helped the country fight both world wars and the Korea war. After many years of work in the construction industry, he retired from the Rondano Construction Company and became an avid golfer who also enjoyed working around his home and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Anthony is survived by wife Mary and their two sons, Donald Anthony Augustus of Stamford, CT and Richard John Augustus and his wife Sarah of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and their six grandchildren, Katherine Augustus of San Francisco, CA, Andrew Augustus of New Haven, CT, Elizabeth Augustus of Carey, NC and Alexander Augustus, David Minor and Lauren Minor of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Also surviving are brothers, Joseph Augustus of Darien and Nicholas Augustus of West Palm Beach, FL.

Anthony was predeceased by his brothers, George Agosto and John Augustus and sisters, Nancy Marino and Joyce Waters.

A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 10:00 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 AM the Church of the Holy Spirit R.C. Church, 402 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, January 21, 2018 from 2:00-5:00 PM.
