Thomas Sproviero, 80, a long time resident of Stamford, passed away on December 30, 2017 at Stamford Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Thomas was born on April 26,1937 in Picerno, Italy and moved to Stamford, CT at the age of 16. He was the son of the late Nicola and Caterina Venetucci Sproviero.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Maria Sproviero and his children Nicholas Sproviero, Katherine Pirri and husband Michael. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Charlie, William and Harrison Pirri. In addition, Thomas is survived by his sister Rosa, four brothers in law, four sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he is predeceased by his brother, Vito Sproviero and sister, Carmela Bocchetti.

Tom worked for Pitney Bowes for 29 years before his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his wife Maria at their second home in Vero Beach, FL. He cherished his time spent with his family, friends, and most of all, playing with his grandchildren and was also an avid Mets fan. During his younger years Tom played soccer competitively and enjoyed recreational tennis in his retirement years. His boisterous and fun personality was adored and beloved by countless friends, family and acquaintances. His vocal “YO” was a staple and loving greeting to all who crossed his path.

Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue Stamford, on Friday, January 5, 2018 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 9:30 AM and proceed for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s RC Church 566 Elm Street Stamford. Interment will follow at Alder Brook Cemetery, Guilford, CT.
