Obituary for Charles S. Koven ("Chuck")

Charles S. Koven ("Chuck")
Charles (Chuck) S. Koven, 85, of Shelton passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of Doris Johannsen Koven and was a former longtime resident of Stamford. Mr. Koven was born in Stamford on December 17, 1931, son of the late Charles William and Adele Zelinka Koven.
He graduated from Stamford High School in 1951. Chuck went into the Army in 1952 and was a Private and a Medic during the Korean War. He was a very proud American. Chuck worked for the City of Stamford, serving in the Town Yard first and then the Sanitation Department.
In addition to the love of his life Doris, Chuck is survived by his cherished daughter Deborah Lodato and husband Anthony of Shelton,CT. He will be missed by his grandson Christopher Lionetti and wife Sherrie and great granddaughter Madisen; as well as his sister Irmgard Gilbert of Stamford, sister in law Solveig Johannsen Madden of Anderson ,SC, along with several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Charles was predeceased by his sons David and Kevin Koven and a sister Hilda Koven Izzi.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the Shelton Lakes Nursing Home. Their compassion and support was invaluable, during this difficult time. Anyone who knew Chuck will remember his caricature artist ability (his love for drawing), his love for warplanes and more than anything, his love for talking about Jesus and reading his Bible. He would tell anyone how important a relationship with Jesus was. His warm smile and compassion for people was infectious and always made it a point to ask about others and listen to them (solicited or unsolicited), wit and wisdom.
Friends may greet his family on Sunday, February 19, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, with a service to be celebrated at 7:15 PM with Pastor Scott Taylor officiating. Final prayers will be held at the funeral home on Monday, February 20, 2017 at 10:00 AM, with Interment following at Fairfield Memorial Park, Oaklawn Avenue, Stamford.
