Obituary for William A. Grosso, Jr.



William A. Grosso Jr., a Stamford resident passed on January 6, 2017 at Stamford Hospital. He was 88 years of age.
Bill was born on September 6, 1928 in New Rochelle, NY, the son of the late William and Florence Jarvis Grosso. Besides his parents, he was pre-deceased by his wife, Catherine Carlis Grosso. Bill resided in Stamford Since 1959.
He leaves behind his three loving sons, William Grosso III of Paso Robles, CA, Stephen Grosso of Chapel, FL, and Daniel Grosso of Middletown, CT. Two grandchildren, Jesse A. Walker Grosso and Micah Jonah Grosso. Bill is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Leaving home at an early age, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Bill served in the closing months of WWII with the 505th P.I.R. 82nd Airborne Division and in the Korean Conflict with the 187th R.C.T. of the 11th Airborne Division. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross, Bronze Star along with various campaign and service awards.
A practicing construction engineer he spent many years in the Health Care Industry, retiring from Cabrini Medical Center in 1997. A Life Member of the NRA, a Freemason for over 50 years; as well as a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 473 of White Plains as well as a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Archangels and its Senior’s Group.
Family and friends may call Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 4 to 8PM at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory located on 104 Myrtle Ave Stamford, CT. A Trisagion service will be held at 7:00PM at the funeral home. A Funeral Service will be held at the Archangels Greek Orthodox Church, 1527 Bedford Street, Stamford, CT at 10:00AM on Thursday, January 12, 2017. Entombment will follow at the St. George’s Mausoleum, Woodland Cemetery, Stamford.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Bill’s name to the Archangels Greek Orthodox Church, 1527 Bedford Street, Stamford, CT 06905. Contributions can also be made to the Carl& Dorothy Bennett Cancer Center of Stamford, CT Stamford Hospital, 1 Hospital Plaza, Stamford, CT 06902.
