Patrick Richard Uva Jr., 51, of Stamford, passed away at Stamford Hospital surrounded by his family on November 2, 2012. Pat was born in Greenwich, CT on September 25, 1961 to Patrick and Betty Ann Vertula-Uva.
Pat was a graduate of Rippowam High School, class of 1980. A plumber by trade, he was the Facilities Manager for Childcare Learning Centers, of Stamford. He was an avid New York Jets and Rangers fan. He was also known for his enjoyment of the New York Daily News and Post crossword puzzles, of which he would time himself. Pat’s love of carrying on of Italian traditions included his making of wine, sopressata and other Italian delicacies of which he frequented Arthur Avenue in the Bronx for his ingredients. He had a passion for cooking and enjoyed all family gatherings. However, most importantly, Pat was known for his big heart and would give you the shirt off his back; he was also known for his quick wit and had a wonderful sense of humor. He truly treasured his time spent with family and friends.
Besides his parents, Pat is survived by his loving wife Linda Marie Smeriglio-Uva, and two children; Patrick Joseph “PJ” Uva and his wife Maria and Natalie Michelle Uva, all of Stamford. He is also survived by four siblings; Richard Uva, of Naugatuck, David Uva, of Stamford, Mark Uva, of Owego, NY and Lou Ann Stockwell of Stamford; along with several brothers and sisters-in-law, several aunts and uncles, and several nieces and nephews. Pat is also survived by his loving mother-in-law Antonia Smeriglio of Stamford, as well as many close friends who he considered family. He was predeceased by his father-in-law, Joseph Smeriglio.
Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave, Stamford on Wednesday November 7, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00PM. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:40 AM on Thursday November 8, for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Ave, Stamford at 10:30AM. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Rockrimmon Rd, Stamford.
