Obituary for Aileen Mary White

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the death on May 17 of our beloved Aileen, who put up a long valiant battle with chronic illness; it robbed her of much, but never her spirit, good humor or wit. She was 78 years young.
A native Stamfordite, she lived in the Shippan Point family home, where she grew up in the close-knit ALC neighborhood. Its beach was her second home. She was born on January 10, 1943, to William D. and Aileen O’Keeffe White, who pre-deceased her. She was also pre-deceased by her older brother, W. Dennis White.
She attended St. Mary’s School and graduated with the first graduating class of the former Stamford Catholic High School in 1960. She went on to New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire, graduating in 1965 with a B.A. She earned a Master’s Degree and a 6th Year Degree from Fairfield University.
She began her professional career teaching in Francestown, N.H., and returned to Stamford teaching at the former Stevens and Riverbank Schools. She ended her career teaching 5th grade at Stark School, from which she retired in 2005. She was always her students’ “favorite teacher.”
Aileen is survived by her devoted siblings, Sheila W. Egan, Patrick J. White (Diane), and sister-in-law, Georgiana D. White. Also surviving are her adoring nieces and nephew, Anne W. Ledwitch (John), Sally Egan, Jack Egan, Jessica White Lancaster (Chris), and Abigail White, who loved her beyond measure.
Aileen was also the fun loving, eternally young, great-aunt to Alex, Stirling and Luke Ledwitch, Pippa and Gemma Ryan, and Josie and Julian Lancaster. They all idolized her.
Aileen was adventurous, quick witted and fun-loving. She was a loyal member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. She loved to travel, and one of her favorite experiences was the summer she studied at Trinity College in Dublin and was able to connect with Irish relatives of her mother, who had been born in Ireland.
We are forever indebted to Dr. Louise D. Resor for her extraordinary care, and a special thanks to her patient, loving caregiver, Anita Angeles.
Aileen, you are forever enshrined in our hearts and memories. You were a very special, unique person – truly one of a kind.
