Obituary for William J. Kinahan

William James Kinahan, age 93, passed away after a brief battle with cancer on April 10, 2021. Bill was born in the town of Carrigkettle, Kilteely, County Limerick, Ireland, to the late Annie (O’Leary) and William Kinahan. Bill was raised by his aunt Bridget (O’Leary) Ryan in Gurthavalla, Doon, County Limerick. He attended Doon School run by the Christian Brothers. Bill was a member of the 1946 Doon County Minor Hurling Championship team, playing right half forward. The Doon team beat the reigning champion Askeaton Team in the final in convincing fashion. Bill came to the United States by boat in 1951 with his sister Peggy. He was sponsored and became a United States citizen. He then joined the US Army and fought in the Korean War. Bill settled in Stamford where he met his wife of 63 years, Angela (Cosgrove) Kinahan. Bill worked Tool and Die in various factories in Stamford to include Norma -Hoffman,Burndy Corporation and Pitney Bowes.Bill also supervised several estates in the New Canaan CT area throughout his career. Bill is a lifelong member of the Pioneer Abstinance Association and is an original parishioner of Holy Spirit Parish, where he was an usher for 50 years. Bill enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grand children. Bill continued to work until last month supervising the Sterling estate in New Canaan. Bill is pre-deceased by his son William, and is survived by his wife Angela, son Donald, grand-children William, Krystal, Tiffany, Shannon and Toni-Ann, and numerous brothers and sisters. Due to Covid concerns, a private Catholic burial service with immediate family members will be held at Holy Spirit Church. He will be buried in Queen of Peace Cemetery.
