Obituary for James M. Russo

James M. Russo, 91, of Stamford, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020 in Portland, ME. He was born in Stamford on December 28, 1928 to the late James J. and Evelyn Frasca Russo.
James, also known as Jim by most, was a graduate of The University of Maryland and was employed as a Computer Programmer for most of his career. Prior to retiring to Florida, he worked at Suburban Cadillac in Stamford. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Army as a Staff Sergeant in the 192nd F.A. Battalion, 43Rd Infantry Division. Jim was a devoted father and husband, devout Christian, 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Senior Mens Association of Stamford (SMAS). Also known by children as Coach Russo, Jim was very involved with coaching Little League Baseball and Pop Warner Football in the 70’s and 80’s while living in Wilton, CT.
He is survived by his loving children, Kathy Mack of Stamford, Mary Beth Minch and her husband Jeff of Sarasota, FL and Jay Russo and his wife Jodi of Buxton, ME, as well as eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, James is also predeceased by his wife, Margaret Johnstone Russo of Stamford.
Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Sunday, January 10, 2021 from 3 pm to 6 pm. Please be advised that COVID protocol will be strongly enforced. Masks and gloves are mandatory and will be supplied. A prayer service will be celebrated at the funeral home on Monday, January 11, 2021 at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien.
