Obituary for Irene Veniopoulos (Petrakos)

Irene Veniopoulos,82, fell asleep to the Lord on the morning of Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, CT. She was born on January 20, 1936 in Pireaus, Greece to the late Christos and Sophia Petrakos.

Irene and her husband Louis owned and operated Pandora, Importers of Greek Products, of Stamford before her retirement in 2010. She also had a deep love for the Greek Orthodox Church and instilled that love into her children which her son continues with the rebuilding of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine at the World Trade Center.

Irene is survived by her loving children, Andrew Veniopoulos of New York City and Sophia Veniopoulos Regan of Palm Harbor, Fl, as well as her two grandchildren, John Louis and Olivia Elizabeth Regan. Also surviving is a brother Vasili Petrakos and nephews, Christos Petrakos and Athanasios Fotiades, all of Athens, Greece.
Besides her parents, Irene was predeceased by her husband Louis Veniopoulos, her
sister Garyfalia Fotiades and brother Nickolas Petrakos.

A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford at 10:30 AM on Monday, October 15, 2018 for a funeral service to be celebrated at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Archangels, 1527 Bedford Street, Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, October 14, 2018 from 4:00-6:00 PM with a Trisagion at 5:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Irene’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue, Ste 700, New York, NY 10001 and or to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church & National Shrine at the World Trade Center, 8 East 79th St., New York, NY 10075
