Domenico LoPreiato of Norwalk, CT, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2018 in Italy.
Born in Arena (VV), Calabria, Italy on April 19, 1948, to the late Filippo and Maria (Franzé) LoPreiato, Domenico was raised in Arena and later Vibo Valentia, Italy, before relocating with his family to Stamford, CT. He graduated from Rippowam High School in Stamford, CT, and attended Norwalk State Technical College and later the University of Connecticut from where he earned degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Business.
He began his career with Pitney Bowes in Stamford, CT from where he retired after 35 years, as a Principal Engineer. In 2014, Domenico came out of retirement and joined ASML in Wilton, CT as a Senior Engineer.
He was a beloved and well-respected member of the local Italian community. From the late 1970s to early 1980s, he taught adult education at the Benjamin Franklin School in Norwalk, CT to fellow Italian immigrants, and could also be heard on the local radio station, WNLK, hosting the Sunday Italian Hour. He had a tremendous love for his family and friends, enjoyed keeping his beautiful vegetable garden, fishing at Calf Pasture Beach, and took joy in cooking for those he loved.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters in their infancy. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 38 years, Stella Tarzia LoPreiato, his daughter Maria Graziella LoPreiato-Bergan and son-in-law Richard Bergan of Norwalk, CT and his son Filippo Antonio LoPreiato, also of Norwalk, CT, along with many family and friends, all of whom he adored.
A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT, at 9:30AM on Saturday, September 29, 2018 and proceed to Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT where a mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM Entombment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Norwalk, CT.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday, September 28, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
