Obituary for Carol Haughey

Carol Haughey
Carol Louise Haughey passed away from this life on November 4, 2017. One of four children, Carol was born on January 25, 1923 to the late Elizabeth Germer and Cornelius Haughey. She was predeceased by her siblings: Elizabeth Hill, Susan Prior and Cornelius Haughey.
At a time when more women were staying at home, Carol began her career as a switchboard operator for Southern New England Telephone Co. Ultimately; she found her home there, retiring as a supervisor after 50 yrs. of dedicated service. She was honored for saving a suicidal woman for talking to her long enough for help to arrive. Carol was a gifted and avid gardener, talented baker and skilled seamstress. After retirement she regularly volunteered at the American Cancer Society and a soup kitchen as well as the many on-going thoughtful and generous gestures she expressed year-round to her many nieces, nephews and their families. Carol was a devoted parishioner at St. Clement for 40+ years and donated many creative, handmade crafts for countless fairs and events. Carol loved nature and animals and for years supported many related causes.
Carol is survived by her nieces Nancy Prior, Carolyn Prior and Marie Walter, her nephews Bob Prior, Phil Prior, James Hill, Neil Haughey and Richard Haughey. She was predeceased by her niece Elizabeth Lotz.
Carol will be deeply missed by all; however, we take comfort in knowing she is where she has long wanted to be, with her family in heaven.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 8,2017 at St. Clements RC Church, 535 Fairfield Ave., Stamford, at 10:00AM, interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien, CT. There will be no calling hours.
