Obituary for Robert E. McDonald

Robert E. McDonald, a longtime resident of Stamford and a World War II veteran, Civil Rights Activist and Entrepreneur, passed October 10, 2017, at age 95.

He marched from Selma to Montgomery with Dr. ML King and the flag he carried hung proudly in the Yearwood Community Center. He was a restaurant owner of Joy’s Soulfood Restaurant for many years before his retirement.
He is survived by his son Derrick L. Austin and his wife Pam of Texas, and his daughter Joy Harris of Maryland.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 14, 2017 at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave, Stamford, CT 06902. The wake will be held from 4pm-6pm and prayer service from 6pm-7pm.
