Manuel J. Neyra, 96, of Stamford passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday October 5, 2017 at Stamford Hospital. He was born in Peru on August 27, 1921 to the late Domingo and Fabia Neyra.
Manuel was a survivor of the 1941 Peruvian Military Campaign and was a multifaceted person in the technical areas before his retirement. He enjoyed cars, gardening and playing his guitar, but more than anything else, his love for his family and spending time with them at every occasion meant the world to him.
Manuel is survived by his children, Hugo Neyra and his wife Myra of Miramar, FL, Enrique Neyra and his wife Rosa of Plantation, FL, Rita Giraldo and her husband William of Stamford, Dominic Neyra and his wife Maritza of Stamford, Fabiola Rivara of Stamford, as well as his grandchildren, Jonathan Giraldo, Gigi Giraldo, Jocelyn Gjuraj, Daniel Rivara, Hugo Jr., Jean Pierre, Brian, Stephanie, Pedro, Paul, Christian, Valerie and Kasey Neyra and several great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Manuel was predeceased by his wife Maria Aguirre and his son Pedro Neyra.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 10:00 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 at St. Mary’s RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, October 9, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
