Obituary for Marian K. Cordner (Karr)


Marian Karr Cordner, a resident of Riverside, Connecticut for 50 years passed away peacefully on September 24, 2017 at age 98 with her loving family by her side.
Born January 20, 1919 in Cranford New Jersey, she was the daughter of Grace Royer Karr and Edmund Joseph Karr of Chatham NJ. She was graduated from the Chatham public schools, Mt. Holyoke College in 1940, and the Berkeley School in 1941.
Mrs. Cordner worked for Bell Telephone Research Labs and the Editorial Department of Ladies Home Journal during WW II while her husband, William Frances Cordner was serving our country as a naval officer. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Old Greenwich, CT for over 50 years and of the Fairfield Villages Mount Holyoke Club. She was a volunteer nursing assistant at Greenwich Hospital, a volunteer at Greenwich Community Answers for 32 years, and, with her family, a member of both the Riverside Yacht Club and the Innis Arden Golf Club. She was a feminist ahead of her time, a gracious lady and someone who loved a good laugh.
She will be sadly missed by her many friends and her family survivors: son, William F. Cordner, Jr. and his wife, Karyn, of Simsbury Connecticut, two granddaughters, their husbands and three great grand children. She was predeceased by her husband, William, her son Gerald, and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held at First Congregational Church, 108 Sound Beach Avenue, Old Greenwich, CT on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 3 pm.
