Obituary for Theodora ""Dora"" Sottini (DeBlasi)

Theodora ""Dora"" Sottini (DeBlasi)

Theodora “Dora” Sottini, 92, a lifelong resident of Stamford, CT, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Thursday, July 13, 2017. Dora was born on April 22, 1925 to the late Nicola and Giuliana Coppola DeBlasi.

Dora is survived by her sons, Joseph and his wife Kim, Louis and his wife Jean, and David and his wife Pattiann.

Also surviving are her grandchildren, Louis, Timothy, David and his wife Brittany, Daniel and his wife Bethany, Stephani and Michael, her great-grandchildren, Sadie Lou, Owen, and Cody, as well as her nieces Julianne and Emilie, and her adored cousin Mary Pizzutti.

Besides her parents, Dora was predeceased by her beloved husband Louis Sottini and her cherished sister Antoinette Huslinger.

Dora was an accomplished businesswoman, starting side by side with her husband. In 1950, from humble beginnings, they opened their first Dairy Queen franchise in Cos Cob, CT, a community dear to them both. They eventually went on to own and operate five Dairy Queen locations, spanning from Connecticut to Staten Island, New York.

Her greatest passion was her family, whom she loved with a generous and giving heart. A talented cook and seamstress, she pursued both activities into her latter years. She often shared fascinating stories of the past as she sewed, and taught Italian phrases to her young grandchildren as they prepared Neapolitan dishes together.

She possessed a monumental will and perseverance, evident through her many personal triumphs and professional successes. She is remembered especially for her resilience and strength, which continue to inspire.

Her memory is shared by all those around her whom she so greatly impacted with her grace, elegance, and genuine company, ever loved in life, and dearly missed hereafter.

The Sottini family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to Dr. Michael Fusco for his most special care and frequent visits to Dora’s home, as well as their heartfelt and loving gratitude to Marilyn, Diane, and the entire Pollock family.

A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, CT at 9:45AM, processing to Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT on Wednesday July 19, 2017 for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30AM. Burial will follow at St. Johns RC Cemetery, Darien, CT. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 18th, 2017 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM.
