Obituary for Rudolf Granser

Rudolf Granser of Stamford, CT passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home on July 4, 2017. Rudolf was born on April 10, 1947 in Austria son to the late Ernestine Granser.
Rudi left Austria in his late teens to follow his passion for travel and new experiences, first living in England and then Paris, France where he was introduced to the art of cooking. He came to the United States in 1973 and began his culinary career as Chef at The Box Tree in Purdys, NY where he was recognized numerous times for his expertise. He later managed The Box Tree restaurant in New York City and then Roger Sherman Inn in New Canaan, CT. A true Renaissance man, Rudi loved to master new things such as flying airplanes, sailing, photography and building beautifully self-designed wood furniture. Most importantly he showed his joy for life and love for friends and family by sharing great food, wine and memorable times.
Rudolf is survived by his loving wife Julie Granser and their daughter Alexa of Stamford. He is also survived by his three brothers Peter Granser, Erich Panofer, and Hannis Panofer, of Austria, as well as family and friends who adored him.
