Sandra A. Spillane, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 29, 2017. She was 77 years old. Sandra was predeceased by her parents Stephen and Florence Geriak and her brother Robert Geriak. She is survived by Donald Spillane, her devoted and loving husband of 56 years; her loving children, Geoffrey D. Spillane and his wife Betsy of Wilton, Deborah A. Dewing of Stamford and Bryan Spillane and his wife Sam Marchiano of New York City, as well as her grandchildren, John, Matthew, Andrew, Jack, Samantha, Frankie, and Cal. Also surviving are two brothers, Stephen Geriak and his wife Judy of Vermont and Kenneth Geriak and his wife Gail of Stamford as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Sandy was a lifelong resident of Stamford, who experienced being raised on a farm to living blocks away from the beach all within the city’s limits. She was blessed with an innate optimism which fed her kind, caring and fun loving spirit. She graduated from Katherine Gibbs College and was passionate about her career, which spanned nearly 60 years at a number of companies including at Affinion Group where she worked at the time of her passing. Sandy was grateful her career afforded her the opportunity to travel and see the world. She was a devoted grandmother who thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren, and they her. She was an avid gardener, no doubt a tie to her agrarian roots. Sandy was also grateful to have lived near St David’s Bluff beach where she spent a considerable amount of time with her family and neighbors soaking in the sun and swimming.
Family and friends may call during a Celebration of Life at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Thursday, July 6, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM. Interment will be private.
