Fannie Joan Portanova, 99, a lifelong resident of Stamford passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 8, 2017. She was born in Stamford on March 18, 1918 to the late Joseph and Angelina Malteso.
Fannie was an employee at Clairol for ten years and then was a seamstress, at the former St. Joseph’s Hospital in Stamford before her retirement. She was a member of the Over Sixty Club of Stamford, where she enjoyed playing Bingo, cards and sewing.
Fannie is survived by her loving daughter, Donna P. Murray of Stamford, her loving son, Ralph J. Portanova, Jr. and his wife Elaine of Sandy Hook, CT, four grandchildren Stephanie Murray of Norwalk, CT Kevin Murray and his wife Lori of Trumbull, CT, David Portanova of White Plains, NY and Andrea Portanova of Middletown, CT, as well as two great grandchildren, Kylee Jean Murray and Kevin “KJ”Murray, Jr. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Fannie was predeceased by her loving husband Ralph A. Portanova, Sr. and three sisters, Rose Faillace, Lena Lombardo and Laura Potenza Wardwell.
The Portanova family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Jewish Home for the Elderly and the Sims House for the loving care that Fannie had received during her stay.
Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM, with a prayer service at 12 noon. Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien.
